The Executive Council meeting of the International Association of Theravada Buddhist Universities, IATBU was held on 16 June 2019 at the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy, Yangon Campus. The meeting was presided over by the Most Venerable Chairman, Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Nyanissara Mahathero.
The meeting made following decisions:
(1) To hold the sixth international conference of the IATBU in Kathmandu with your college as the host on 20-22 November 2020;
(2) To choose the main theme related to the noble eightfold path (atthangika-magga) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
(3) To promote the Most Venerable Nyanapunnika, the Sangha Nayaka of Nepal to be one of the two vice-chairmen in order to help prepare the forthcoming conference; and
(4) To appoint the Venerable Dr. Anil Sakya Sugandho (Phra Sakyavamsavisuddhi) as Joint Executive Secretary.
(5) The Secretariat office would be moved in rotation to different university members. The first office has been located at Mahamakut Buddhist University of Thailand. The second rotation office will be at the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy of Myanmar.
(6) The Chairman of the IATBU appointed Venerable Kovida as the Honorary Treasurer of the IATBU taking the task from Venerable Dr. Anil Sakya Sugandho (Phra Sakyavamsavisuddhi).
(7) The Most Venerable Chairman, Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Nyanissara Mahathero is donating fifty thousand USD towards this conference. He may also try to help find sponsors as and when necessary.
