Dear ATBU Members,
The Venerable Dr. Ashin Nyanissara, Chairman and the Executive Council of the ATBU are very keen to start an academic exchange programme among the ATBU members. This initiative can be launched with an exchange of teaching staff between members.
The Secretariat has been working on a possible exchange programme for 2007-08. So far, Sitagu International Buddhist Academy (SIBA) and International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University (ITBMU) from Myanmar and Nava Nalanada Mahavihar (Nalanda University) have agreed in principle to be part of this initiative. The following are their proposals.
1. Ven. Prof. Dr. Nandamalabhivamsa (ITBMU Rector) will visit Nalanda to conduct a two-week lecture series on Theravada Abhidhamma and its application to daily life, possible in November 2007. (N/B some of the Venerable’s lectures are available on DVD)
2. Ven. Prof. Dr. Khammai Dhammasami (also of ITBMU) has agreed to run a week-long teaching on academic reading, writing and research methodology at Nalanda in late February 2008. (The emphasis is on efficient reading and effective writing for research students. Teaching materials include academic articles and books. It is about academic presentation and its logical structure.)
3. Dr. Rabindra Panth (Director/Rector) has agreed to conduct research seminar at ITBMU, Yangon; and a series of lectures at Sitagu International Buddhist Academy, Sagaing in April 2008.
To take this ATBU proposal further, the Secretariat has requested all ATBU members to propose the following:
(a) in which areas/topics/ of Buddhist studies your university/college can beneficially accommodate a visiting lecturer and for how long? (This is the kind of help you think you can get from other members.)
(b) Can you send any teaching staff to other members? If so, who, for how long and which topic/s of lecture he/she can offer?
For more information, members should contact: Ven. Dr. Dhammasami (Executive Secretary, Association of Theravada Buddhist Universities). Email: email@example.com .
